🧭 Meta-Layer Initiative: Second Call for Input Update

The Meta-Layer Initiative is gaining momentum. With over 15 submissions already in during our Second Call for Input, we're seeing proposals that stretch the imagination—from whistleblower protections to digital afterlife ethics to web-native interfaces no browser could contain. We're heading toward Internet Day SF on May 17 with a new website, AI assistants, our first encyclopedia publication, a growing team, and a hidden game unfolding across our materials. There's never been a better time to plug in, contribute, and help shape the symbolic infrastructure of the next web.

🧭 Meta-Layer Initiative: Second Call for Input Update

The Second Call for Input is underway, closing June 30.

So far, we’ve received 15+ innovative proposals, including:

  • 🛡️ Whistleblower protections

  • 🕯️ Proper treatment of digital ghosts (profiles of the deceased)

  • 🧠 Novel interfaces designed natively for the Metaweb—breaking the constraints of Today’s Web

Each contributor—whether via meeting, email, or website—is being awarded one of the first-ever Overweb badges, forming the basis of a trust layer for our shared infrastructure.

There’s a lot more in this post. Take a few moments. See where you might plug in.

📅 May 17 in San Francisco: Internet Day SF — Join us at Cloudflare HQ for a Meta-Layer talk & hands-on submission sprint.
🌐 New Web Presence: Meet the Assistants (Metta & Bridgit), review the White Paper, and explore our new online home.
📚 Featured in the Encyclopedia of Modern AI: Our trusted execution environment (TEE) use case now anchors a chapter in this landmark publication.
🛤️ Walking the Narrow Path: Toward coherence, signal, and collective clarity.
⚛️ Quantum Scalar: Bridging ancient wisdom and quantum-secure digital architectures.
📣 Open Call for Participation: From prompt engineering to storytelling, community ops to coherence—the Meta-Layer needs you.
🧩 A Game of Meaning: Each inscription, a move traversing the symbolic terrain of the Metaweb.

📅 Mark your Calendar - Internet Day SF is on May 17th

📍 On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Meta-Layer Initiative is a co-sponsor of Internet Day SF at Cloudflare HQ, San Francisco with the SF Bay Chapter of the Internet Society.

🎤 I’ll give my first public Meta-Layer talk since COVID, followed by a 🛠️ hands-on session where participants will co-create and submit ideas.

🚀 Our goal: 50+ new submissions in one day. If it works, we’ll remix and share this model across the Bay and beyond.

Register by Thursday at the Lu.ma event page. More info: internetdaySF.org.

🌐 New Web Presence, Assistants, Spokesperson, and White Paper

The new web presence for the Meta-Layer Initiative is now live at themetalayer.org, featuring two very capable AI assistants:

  • Metta – your expert guide to the Metaweb and the Meta-Layer. Metta helps individuals and projects understand how to align with Metaweb principles and integrate into their thoughts and architectures.

  • Bridgit – the submission assistant designed to convert ideas or projects into polished Meta-Layer submissions in minutes. She supports everything including initial thoughts, links, project docs, slides, white papers.

We’ve also brought on a special new voice—Sir John Falstaff of BitBard—a time-traveling spokesperson from a future already transformed by the Metaweb. He’s here to bring wit, perspective, and a good dose of cosmic context. You can engage with Sir John anytime at his personal chamber. which is also accessible via the front page of the website themetalayer.org#falstaff. You can also catch him chiming in on our Twitter @themetalayer.

For a deeper dive into the vision and technical foundations, you can read our white paper directly from themetalayer.org/white-paper.

🧠 Meta-Layer Use Case in Encyclopedia of Modern Artificial Intelligence

The Meta-Layer project is contributing a chapter titled “AI Containment Above the Webpage: Community-Governed Trusted Execution Environments for Human–Agent Interaction” to IGI-Global's upcoming Encyclopedia of Modern Artificial Intelligence. This chapter, and its accompanying use case “Avatar Enters the Canopi”, outline how the Canopi layer and Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) powered by Phala.Network can:

  • Distinguish between humans and agents

  • Apply real-time community governance

  • Log interactions on-chain

  • Protect human data sovereignty

These designs enable confidential, scalable, and accountable co-participation of humans and agents in shared web spaces.

Two Meta-Layer interns from the University of Buffalo will be prototyping the “Avatar Enters the Canopi” use case. Both previously participated in the Metaweb Challenge, a PEARL-certified digital badge program. with University of Buffalo's Experiential Learning Network.

🛤️ Tristan Harris’s “Narrow Path” → Infrastructure

We were so moved by Tristan Harris’s recent TED talk that we ran it through Metta. The result? A structured submission to the Meta-layer—mapping his moral vision onto seven Desirable Properties, with key extensions.

⚛️ Quantum Scalar joins the Meta-Layer Initiative

Another emerging project under the Meta-Layer umbrella is Quantum Scalar, which aims to develop quantum-secure messaging and blockchain systems. It draws inspiration from ancient wisdom and embeds:

  • Octonions and spin-3/2 states

  • Hypercubic lattices and geometric algebra

  • Ethical frameworks for AI development

This work lays a conceptual groundwork for future-proof computational models to be embedded in the Meta-Layer. Stay tuned...

📣 Open Call for Participation

We’re looking for people with skills in:

  • 🌀 Coherence & cajoling – Keeping the vision aligned and people motivated

  • 📍 Desirable Property champions – Be a point person for one of the 20 DPs

  • 🤖 AI & prompt engineering – Shape how agents interact and contribute

  • 🧱 Developer / agent architecture – Build the tools and protocols

  • 🤝 Volunteer coordination – Help brilliant people move in sync

  • 📢 Marketing, storytelling & social media – Spread the word, spark curiosity

This is a dynamic, purpose-driven, and highly timely opportunity to shape public digital infrastructure.

🧩 We’re Doing Something Out of This World

But instead of announcing it, we’re turning it into a game.

A message has been embedded.

A record inscribed.

Not announced—but hidden.

Clues are scattered across our work:

🧭 In the white paper
🧠 In the Metaweb book
🤖 In conversations with agents
🕳 In hidden tags on themetalayer.org

You’ll need presence, reasoning, and a touch of poetic intuition.

You may play solo or in a group.

The next clue is coming soon.

🙌 HOW YOU CAN HELP

We want to gather 100+ new contributions over the next 45 days—and we’d love your help.

If you or someone you know comes across an idea, white paper, or cool concept that feels aligned, drop it into our AI assistant Bridgit. It takes two minutes or less to generate a submission.

👉 It doesn’t need to be your own idea. We value curation.

If you spot something novel that you’d want to see supported in the Metaweb, you can create a “Meta-Layer × Something Novel” submission. In doing so, you’ve helped encode the possibility for that innovation to live in the Meta-Layer.

We’d also love to have you in the ecosystem:

And please follow us on our NEW Twitter account: @themetalayer. And join our Google group.
Falstaff will be chiming in. 🎭
