AI Deserves Better Infrastructure. Help Shape It.

The Meta-Layer Initiative is defining the foundational properties of a contextual, accountable, and sovereign layer above the web.
We need AI researchers, builders, and policy thinkers to help shape what this means for the future of artificial intelligence.

🗓 Call for Input open through June 30, 2025

🔍 Why This Matters

AI is evolving faster than the systems meant to contain or govern it.

From black-box models to runaway virality, we’re already seeing the consequences of deploying AI on an internet that wasn’t built for transparency, accountability, or collective oversight.

The Meta-Layer offers a new foundation—one that operates above the webpage to restore visibility, context, and shared governance.

But it needs to be shaped by people like you.

🧩 The 3 AI-Related Desirable Properties

🧠 1. Safe & Ethical AI

AI must operate transparently, ethically, be explainable and aligned with collective goals.

  • How should AI actions be made visible to users?

  • What values or ethics frameworks should be encoded?

  • How can we enforce explainability at the protocol layer?

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 2. Community-Based AI Governance
🧊 3. AI Containment

AI systems should be governed by people, not platforms.

  • What models of public oversight are working (or failing)?

  • How could meta-communities participate in agent governance?

  • What mechanisms would make this scalable and fair?

AI agents must be constrained by transparent, community-defined rules.

  • What guardrails should be enforceable by default?

  • What role should DIDs, logs, or tokenized permissions play?

  • What happens when AI breaks the rules?

🎖️ Contributor Recognition

All contributors to the AI properties will:

  • Be credited in the v1.0 Essay on the Desirable Properties of a Meta-Layer

  • Receive a Contributor Badge via the BRC333 Bitcoin Ordinals meta-protocol

  • Be invited to future working groups and governance design sessions

Most protocols forget how they were built.
We’re building one that remembers.

📣 Want to Bring This to Your Community?

We’re also looking for Cat Herders in the AI space!

People willing to bring the Call for Input into their:

  • Research group

  • Lab

  • Company

  • Standards body

  • Signal group chat

You don’t need permission. You just need the spark.

📅 Call for Input Deadline: June 30, 2025

We believe AI should be governed in public, with real input from the people building and thinking about it every day.

This is your invitation to shape the protocols that shape what comes next.
