Getting Started with the SIG

if you have not already, please fill out the onboarding form

Thank you for stepping into the Meta-Layer movement. You’ve joined a global, intergenerational wave reclaiming the browser as a civic interface for trust, context, and collaboration. In the next two years, we aim to define the governance, terminology, desirable properties, and substrate of the Meta-Layer.

This onboarding guide gives you everything you need to get started with the SIG.

Participation Guide

Here are your next steps as we gear up to officially launch the Meta-Layer Infrastructure SIG within the Internet Society:

1. Join the Internet Society

If you have not already become a member of the Internet Society, please become a member here: internetsociety.org/become-a-member. This takes 1-2 minutes. Then, at that same time, apply to join your local chapter.

2. Join the SIG's WhatsApp Groups, Substack, LinkedIn, and X

3. Get Your Founding Wave Badge

  • We’re issuing digital badges to recognize early contributors. You'll need a wallet that supports digital artifacts (Unisat.io or Xverse.app).

  • After installing the wallet, send us your wallet address to receive your badge.

  • If you need help, our assistant can guide you: bit.ly/meta-layer-inscription.

4. Share the SIG with Your Network Help us reach technologists, organizers, and trust-builders by sharing

5. Learn and Find Your Role

6. Create Meta-Layer content

  1. Pick a subject that will have resonance with your ISOC chapter or an external community

  2. Use our Meta-Layer Assistant to create content incuding articles, blog posts, social media, and research reports: bit.ly/meta-layer-metta.

  3. Carefully and thoroughly read/edit the output of the Assistant to remove unnecessary jargon, hallucination, and complexity that may deter comprehension.

  4. Make social media posts that include or link to your new content and post in our Whatsapp community group: chat.whatsapp.com/DdjeT5JX09LGJSusGzF1qP.

7. Contribute to Governance

  1. Learn about our proposed RFC process: themetalayer.org/rfc.

  2. Review the list of Meta-Layer Drafts and RFCs: themetalayer.org/001.

  3. Identify something that is missing or that you woudl like to advocate for and decide who if anyone you would like to work on it with. We recommend the formation of Meta-Layer Guilds (small groups of 3-5 people including a youth and an elder) to learn and work together on Meta-Layer Drafts.

  4. Use our Meta-Layer RPC Guide to help create Meta-Layer Drafts: bit.ly/meta-layer-rpc.

  5. Send your Meta-Layer Draft to themetalayer@gmail.com.

Please take your time working through this list. It’s designed to help you participate meaningfully in the movement we’re building together. If you have questions or want support getting started, reach out to:
Yves (volunteer manager) at andemabuhendwayves@gmail.com
Daveed (lead facilitator) at daveed@bridgit.io for questions about the SIG structure or the deeper Meta-Layer vision.

With your energy and perspective, we can shape a trustworthy future for the Internet—one grounded in community, context, and shared civic power. We’re honored to have you in the founding wave. Let’s build the Meta-Layer together.

In trust and transformation,
The Meta-Layer Infrastructure SIG Team
